Dear Karen, hope to see you soon again.

However, consider that when, in Italy, we talk about Mobile Payments, the common people says "as everybody do it already in US"!!

Where is the fault. Are the journalists too busy in creating something doesn't exist yet? I believe so. Don't know why.

But you must accept the point that the Starbucks experience and the similar are NOT payments but a way to put a Closed Loop Card on a smartphone. That's it. And this can be done only by large and powerful companies able to integrate a camera on their cash registers.

But it is a good beginning.

What I buy from you is the fact that the killer app won't be the Mobile Payment through the NFC. Too complicated and with no added value.

But be more optimistic about what can be just behind the corner!
When all the "New Economy" companies started just put some PDF brochure on a web page and where happy they were on Internet.
We have seen how "internet" in integrated in our life. Can we still call it "just internet"?

My advice is just to look at the NFC as the ADSL killer media for the Internet. The NFC is the way to put in contact the smartphones with the real world. Wait for new ideas and business model. And why we should expect those from the OTT.
Once upon a time, the OTT were: IBM, Microsoft, Nokia ....

Dear Karen: I believe your explanations were and are very helpful ! Keep it up! By the way your e-book was a great overview of this evolving markeplace. I read with interest Jenna Wortham's article "Fed Up With Banks"...NYTimes 1/9/2013. Since this marketplace seems addicted to fee income...it strikes me that "Simple" is going to ultimately take aim at the ever increasing fee structures "required" to support business models. It's just the beginning of the dinosaurs getting knocked off by the deluge of entrepeneurs armed with smart phones. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks RMW

Yep, Karen, I'm with you.
How much nfc for NFC in the world! (I mean to say nfc = Near False Communication ... sorry for the pun).
Happy 2013.
