Amazon Food Delivery Service Expands Into Irvine

Amazon announced Tuesday (Nov. 15) Irvine, California Prime members can take advantage of free one-hour delivery from a slew of restaurants, including Mick’s Karma Bar, Rockfire Grill, 3-Thirty-3 Waterfront, Pick Up Stix and many more.

In a press release, Amazon said Prime members in Irvine can order, browse menus, track their delivery and watch their delivery in real time as it leaves the restaurant and arrives at their home.

“We are excited to continue rapidly expanding our ultra-fast delivery service of hot foods from popular, quality restaurants,” said Gus Lopez, general manager of Amazon Restaurants, in the press release. “Irvine marks the sixth city in California, third to launch this month, to enjoy free one-delivery from Amazon Restaurants.”

Aiming to stand out from the rest of the mobile delivery services, Amazon strives to deliver the food in an hour or less. Amazon is making the service transparent by eliminating any menu markups or hidden service fees. Delivery is always free for Amazon Prime members. If a customer finds a restaurant item on Prime Now that is higher than at the restaurant within 24 hours of placing the order, Amazon will refund that customer the price of the item.

In April, Amazon expanded further into California after launching in San Diego earlier in the year. According to a company press release back then, the local eateries participating in the one-hour (or less) home delivery service — which Amazon is offering for free to Prime members in San Francisco — include Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers, Buca di Beppo, DOSA, The Monk’s Kettle, Nick’s Crispy Tacos and Pressed Juicery, among others, totaling 117 across 33 zip codes in the Golden Gate City.

“San Francisco is known for incredible restaurants, and now, Prime members across the city can enjoy their favorite local restaurants at home or at the office,” Lopez stated in the release at the time. “With Prime Now Restaurant Delivery, customers can expect to pay the same price for their favorite dishes, whether they visit the restaurant or order the same items for delivery. Prime Now has no hidden fees or menu markups, and delivery is free for a limited time.”
