Chase Enacts Debit Restrictions In Wake Of Target Breach

Chase cardholders who shopped at Target from November 27 to December 15 will have their ATM withdrawals and debit card purchases limited by the bank as a security precaution, The Associated Press reported on December 22.

The restrictions affect 2 million debit card holders, who will be limited to $300 in daily purchases and $100 in ATM withdrawals.

The limits will be in place until Chase replaces the cards. The AP indicated that Chase credit cards are not affected by the limitations.

The news comes just days after Target confirmed a massive data breach that affected 40 million cardholders. For more on the breach and what it means for the payments industry, read our full interview with former Hypercom CEO and current Loop chief technologist George Wallner here.
