JCPenney CEO Wants To Ditch Traditional Checkout By 2013
JCPenney CEO Ron Johnson wants to remove traditional checkout from his company’s stores by the end of next year.
To replace the existing standard, Johnson will invest in mobile technology and self checkout systems, according to a report from Business Insider, with any remaining net savings being reinvested in customer service. Stores will also be completely RFID and wi-fi enabled, the report says.
Johnson’s comments were broadcast over Twitter by high-powered business executives listening to his original remarks, including Stephen Gillett, President of Best Buy Digital, who noted that Johnson “wants to get rid of the person standing at the register” by 2013.
