Amazon, Target Among Winners in eCommerce Patent Lawsuit
A U.S. district judge decided in favor of Amazon, Target, and a host of other retailers that had been sued by Kelora Systems LLC this week, settling a patent infringement case that began two years ago.
According to Internet Retailer, Kelora holds a patent on a certain type of search software that lets consumers browse online storefronts by price, size, and other item-specific parameters. On Tuesday, Judge Claudia Wilken of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled that the technology being used by the defendants did not infringe on that patent.
Lee Cheng, general counsel for Newegg, a defendant in the case, said the decision “is sending a message that the tide is turning against these types of frivolous lawsuits.”
