BlackBerry Tests BBM Money P2P Service In Indonesia

BlackBerry has begun its commercial pilot for its BBM Money P2P payments service in Indonesia, according to Finextra. The platform allows BlackBerry users to send money to other contacts who have also signed up for the service from within the messenger app, and also allows consumers to purchase airtime and transfer money to bank accounts.

The service was developed by Blackberry, AGIT Monitise Indonesia and local financial institution PermataBank.

“It is incredibly exciting that Indonesia is the first country in the world to develop a person-to-person payment service such as this,” said Darren Sugden, CEO, Monitise Pacific Asia. “This launch is a ringing endorsement for how businesses with different commercial needs can collaborate in the fast-growing mobile, payments and banking space.”
