Square’s Deal A “Godfather” Moment, CEO Says
Here are our top five tweets from the week that was. Keep tweeting, and we may feature you next Friday.
@levie: Square just dropped a bomb on the retail payments industry, in one of those Godfather-dead-horse-in-your-bed epic move moments.
This is perhaps the most violent imagery we’ve ever included at PYMNTS.com, but certainly when highlighting the week’s top tweets we have to mention Box CEO Aaron Levie’s assessment of the Starbucks/Square deal. What do you think — did other retail payments players wake up screaming when they heard this news?
@JrjClark: The Sherlock Holmes story of the Facebook killer: "The Case Of The Enveloping Platform" http://pymnts.com/commentary/The-Case-Of-The-Enveloping-Platform/ … @Pymnts
We’re not sure that even the dynamic duo of Holmes and Watson could solve this mystery — then again, no crime has yet been committed, with Facebook as far from dead as can be at this point. But should the worst happen at some point in the future, MPD CEO Karen Webster has put forth an educated guess as to what technology might eventually be behind the social network’s demise.
@MasterCardNews: Transactions in #AsiaPacific may soon be #cashless says #MasterCard’s Jim Cheah http://bit.ly/MBMteT [via @malaymail]
MasterCard’s “cashless conversation” is always an interesting follow. The latest exchange in that dialogue takes on Southeast Asia, where Malayan Banking Bhd predicts a double-digit increase in the use of prepaid cards over the next three years.
@bcole750: RT @pymnts: #FraudAlert: Scammers Target #PrepaidCards http://ow.ly/cGy0G
Talk about a powerful hashtag, #FraudAlert is a topic that anyone in the business of securing payments ought to keep an eye on. Earlier, we reported on a survey conducted by the Consumer Federation of America that noted scammers are using prepaid cards more frequently to con consumers; we’re glad our readers are taking note!
@BostonFed: @Pymnts, join @ShriverCenter for a free webinar on 8/16. Learn how #mobile banking increases #financial access: http://ow.ly/cFAUZ ...
After the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston extended the invitation to us, we thought we’d invite all of you to the Shriver Center’s mobile banking webinar, scheduled for next Thursday.
There’s our top five for the week. Have a great weekend, everyone!
