The Newest Mobile Payment App Runs On Dunkin'
Dunkin' Donuts has launched its own mobile payment application. The app will use a QR code to connect a consumer's stored payment card information to the terminal at the point of sale, and does not require that customers acquire a physical card to maintain an account.
The app includes gifting capabilities, said CEO Nigel Travis in remarks on Thursday morning, letting consumers send Dunkin' Donuts credit to their friends via text, email or Facebook. Travis also hinted that the app may help bring new features to the ordering process in the future, perhaps including such technologies as voice recognition.
"Most" of the franchise's 7,000 U.S. locations will accept payments from the app, an Associated Press report says, including those locations with drive-thru windows. It's also worth noting that Dunkin' Donuts owns the Baskin Robbins franchise, so this announcement could soon have an impact on that business as well.
