National ATM Council Asks MasterCard To Delay EMV Liability Shift

The National ATM Council has asked MasterCard to delay its implementation of EMV chip card liability shifts for its Maestro international cards that are used in the U.S. MasterCard has previously cited April 2013 and October 2016 as important dates for its EMV liability shift.

According to the NAC, concern over the shift date revolves around the lack of a a universally accepted Application Identifier (AID) that's been tested and deployed in the U.S. "With little more than two m

onths until MasterCard's April 19th liability shift for Maestro cards, there is still no universally applicable AID for EMV in the U.S.," says Bruce Renard, NAC Executivutive Director.
