ROAM Focuses On International, Mobile Growth With New Exec

Scott Goldthwaite was named new Senior Vice President of Operations at ROAM less than two weeks ago, on April 1, 2013. A man with experience at payments innovators such as Payment Planet, Hypercom, WAY Systems and other companies, Goldthwaite’s resume speaks for itself when it comes to mobile payments and international expansion.

How does ROAM plan on leveraging Goldthwaite’s experience, and what attracted Goldthwaite to ROAM? PYMNTS.com spoke with ROAM’s new executive to find out.

According to Goldthwaite, ROAM is well positioned for success because of the biggest demand in the market today: mobility.

“In prior companies I’ve been fortunate to work with many of the world’s largest acquiring banks and processing partners, as well as their large and small retail restaurants and hospitality merchants all around the world,” Goldthwaite said.

“And over the last 24 months, the number one thing on all merchants’ to-do lists right now is mobility. Merchants want to be more agile to better serve their customers, and they want to be able to conduct businesses wherever their customers are.”

Goldthwaite said that desire for mobility stems from what he calls a “pervasive bubble of connectivity,” in which people are connected to one another and to their businesses all the time.

“Whether we’re on the turnpike in our car, 40,000 feet on an airplane or 200 miles out to sea on a cruise ship, we are in constant connection both at a personal level – and more importantly at a business level – with all of our enterprise applications,” Goldthwaite said. “ROAM is in a very attractive place to serve that, and I’m very excited to be a part of that opportunity.”

So how does Goldthwaite plan to use his experience and expertise as ROAM’s new SVP of Operations? According to the man himself, mobility and international growth are key.

“As SVP of Operations, my immediate focus will be on aligning initiatives and organizing resources so we can capitalize on the most relevant opportunities that provide ROAM with significant growth both here domestically, but more importantly internationally,” Goldthwaite said. ““When you combine the fantastic mobile product sets with the global distribution channel that’s available to ROAM now, the company is poised for hyper-growth.”
