MasterCard is about to make fast food faster at two major restaurant chains.
The company announced today (July 27) that Burger King will expand its use of MasterPass to its app, which will enable consumers to find exclusive deals, locate a nearby Burger King, review the menu and, of course, pay with their phone. As a loyal merchant with MasterCard, Burger King was one of the original merchants to sign on to use MasterPass when it launched in 2013.
Beyond Burger King, Firehouse Subs also has agreed to start accepting MasterPass as an online payment option. Consumers who want to know if they can use MasterPass with a specific merchant should look for the “Buy with MasterPass” button.
“Quick service restaurants are focused on providing quality food as conveniently as possible,” said Michael Cyr, group executive, U.S. Market Development, MasterCard. “With MasterPass, consumers can go online, place their order and pay with just one click — the hassle of entering delivery and billing information is eliminated, meaning less time they’ll be waiting for their meal.”
Both domestically and internationally, MasterPass has been expanding its digital footprint — and partners. Earlier this month MasterCard paired with PAY.ON to grow the acceptance of its digital wallet solution. As a result of the partnership, MasterPass is now available to more than 110 payment service providers and also for more than 56,000 Web shops worldwide.
MasterPass is accepted in 23 countries and allows consumers to pay for goods either online, or in-app using any device. It is accepted at 250,000 merchants worldwide and is free to use for consumers.
