WASHINGTON, DC – Continuing his fight for an open and accountable government, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) has launched a powerful strike against President Obama’s ability to issue recess appointments. Today, Congressman Landry led a coalition of 77 freshmen in a letter to House leadership requesting all appropriate measures be taken to prevent any recess appointment by the President for the remainder of the 112th Congress.

In their letter to Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy – Landry and his huge coalition of freshmen offered to man the floor in order to prevent either body of Congress to go into recess. By preventing the Senate from recessing, Landry’s coalition will provide the Senate the ability to perform their Constitutional duties of scrutinizing the appointments made by the President.

Landry is hopeful the widespread support he has received in this effort will spread to the rest of the House and the Senate. “Our freshmen class has been a strong voice and a beacon of hope for the American people. I hope our efforts to fight for transparency will mean an end to Barack Obama’s politically-motivated recess appointments and utter disregard of the Senate’s constitutional power of advice and consent.”
