Google Wallet Fattens Up, Now Works With All Major U.S. Payment Cards

Big news: Google Wallet now works with every major U.S. credit and debit card. If you bought an Android smartphone at one point over the past several months for the explicit purpose of trying out Google Wallet, you may have been disappointed by the fine print after opening up the box. Up until recently, the mobile payment platform worked only with payment cards that operated on the MasterCard payment network, and within that subset, only with those that were issued by Citi.

Now, that payment card specificity is a thing of the past, as a major refresh to the entire Google Wallet platform has opened the application up to use with any major U.S. payment card, including those on the Visa, American Express, and Discover networks. That expansion was one of several features added to the new Google Wallet, which now also features a remote disable feature to offer its users enhanced security in the event a device is lost or stolen.

For more of the details behind the new features, as well as an update on Google Wallet’s overall adoption information, we connected with Robin Dua, head of product management for the platform. Click below to access the full interview.
