Here are our top five tweets from the week that was. Keep tweeting, and we may feature you next Friday.
@PaulsRandomStuf: I really don’t want to start using my phone to pay for more things. What’s wrong with cash? http://via.me/-39bwoua
Hold it now! This is blasphemy in the payments industry — and we can think of a dozen firms who would love to talk to Paul about the differences between electronic and cash payments. But, isn’t there a saying about the customer always being right?
@davidmarcus: Really love Path 2.5. Well done Dave, Shak & team!
You usually have to jump through all kinds of hoops to arrange an interview with a top-level executive like Marcus to ask questions such as, “What are the latest innovations in technology that you think are really well done?” But Twitter makes the process much simpler: now everyone knows the head at PayPal sees some potential in Path, an upstart social network that keys on connecting users to their closest friends and family.
@AmericanExpress: See how to get $5 statement credit when you sync Amex Card w/ @Foursquare & dine out during #NYC Restaurant Week! http://aexp.co/6Sy
Speaking of the intersection of payments and technology, we still find this partnership intriguing. Foursquare has made quite a few changes to its platform lately, including several new opportunities for generating revenue; working with Amex could help that department as well.
@MatthieuPA: according to some @Square , @PayPal lost its innovative edge RT @pymnts: Square Exec: PayPal Is “Part of the Problem” http://ow.ly/csoem
We had to mention this story again, just one tiny part of an entire week’s worth of interesting back-and-forth between payments companies. Shortly after a Square exec took to Quora to dismiss a PayPal merger, VeriFone’s CEO likened Square to a 2000s web startup. We hope you were keeping up with our daily newsletter!
@Discover: Get the jumbo popcorn! Sign up to earn 5% Cashback bonus on up to $1500 in purchases @ the movies 7/1-9/30 Details: http://discvr.co/PJhtIu
Can you imagine spending $1500 at the movies in two months?! Hey — at least with Discover, you’d only be out $1425!
There’s our top five for the week. Have a great weekend, everyone!
