Bitcoin Theft Forces Silk Road’s Heir To Close

Sheep Marketplace, one of several sites to emerge after the closure of Silk Road, the encrypted online black market, has announced that it will cease operation in the wake of a $6 million bitcoin heist, Forbes reported on December 1.

One of the site’s sellers allegedly discovered a security flaw that allowed them to withdraw 5,400 bitcoins. Administrators for Sheep Marketplace acknowledged that attempts to recoup the losses have failed.

According to Forbes, the site closed, but users were unable to withdraw millions of dollars worth of bitcoin in the week afterward.
