Apple Fighting Aids On Black Friday

As part of Apple’s (RED) program, the company will to donate to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS with the proceeds from its new Apps for (RED), which can be found on the App Store, as well as a portion of both online and in-store retail sales made on Black Friday as well as Cyber Monday.

Apple CEO Time Cook said, “Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give.” Cook also spoke about efforts for the World AIDS Day 2014 campaign. “For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact. This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apple’s retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.”

Apps for (RED) is running from November 24th to December 7th and will consist of 25 applications with fresh exclusive content, in which all the proceeds will go directly to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS around the world. Participating applications include GarageBand, Angry Birds, FIFA, Star Walk and others.

On Black Friday, Apple will provide customers with a (RED)-branded gift card with select purchases and will donate a percentage of each sale. In addition, on Cyber Monday Apple will also donate part of every sale made from both online and in-store retail purchases.
