British Utility Firm Excited For New, Streamlined Payments Systems

Utility firm British Gas announced earlier this week that the implementation of its new billing system is almost complete. Additionally, British Gas plans to transfer customer accounts onto a new CRM system this year.

The company explained to ComputerWorld UK that it was cutting costs to better compete in a competitive market, and pair with its decision last year to be more transparent by ending the automatic rollover of contracts at renewal. The new SAP system is specifically for British Gas’ 500,000 business customers, and is expected to improve billing processes and better equip company staff to deal with customer issues.

“Alongside an ongoing program of process simplification, this should enable us to deliver improved service and lower costs, and we are on track to achieve £100 million of annual operating cost and bad debt reductions by the end of 2015,” the firm said, reported the news source.

Updated billing systems can be a boon for many businesses. Earlier this week, less-than-truckload and truckload services entity Volpe Express announced that it had invested in a new back office management system for 24/7 bill entry processing and reporting through a cloud-based portal.
