Google’s New Shopping Holiday

For consumers based out of India who are looking to purchase new apparel, electronics or household items, Google just announced the Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) for 2014.

GOSF in an initiative that bring various online merchants across India together to offer discounts on their products. The effort launched back in 2012 by Google to create a surge in adoption of online shopping throughout India. Google India’s VP & Managing Director Rajan Anandan said, “Great Online Shopping Festival is India’s version of Cyber Monday in the West and is an exciting platform to raise awareness and consumer adoption of online shopping in India.”

Google reported that the shopping festival is set to run between December 10th and 12th. In addition that, GOSF will host a pre-party on November 25th to act as a introduction to the event.

Various websites including Snapdeal, FabFunish and FirstCry are all prepared for the GOSF sale. Coupon Dunia has publicized GOSF shopping coupons for various shopping websites, while DesiDime has created a designated section on their website for GOSF which allows shoppers to view all GOSF deals in one area.

In 2013, while GOSF attracted many eyes, the website experienced some technical difficulties, which included a crash after the festival went live. Google then extended the festival for another day.

GOSF intends to bring more Indians on the web and to boost sales on various online gateways. According to NextBigWhat, Google India’s revenues have increased by 48% over the past year. As GOSF attracts new potential shoppers, Google will simultaneously benefit from the multitude of advertisements and marketing campaigns.

NextBigWhat also said, “Google makes no money out of GOSF, but through the entire year, they probably make more money than Ecommerce portals.”
