Hackers Hit European Central Bank

Fraudsters managed to hack into the European Central Bank’s website, stealing email addresses and other contact information, according to an ECB statement. The theft was discovered after the bank received an anonymous email “seeking financial compensation for the data.” While most contact information was encrypted, some was not.

According to ECB, the database is “physically separate from any internal systems, so no market sensitive information was compromised.” German police are investigating the breach, and all those whose contact information may have been stolen are being informed.
