Hotels Find Room For More Data Attacks

Several major U.S. hotel chains may have been the victims of a new data breach.

Hilton, Marriott and Starwood Hotels are among a group of customers of hotel management-solutions provide White Lodging Corp. Services that may have been harmed by a potential breach, the New York Times reported on Jan. 31.

White Lodging began investigating the breaches after being tipped off by Brian Krebs, author of the KrebsOnSecurity independent tech security blog. A spokesperson for White Lodging confirmed the investigation with the New York Times.

If true, this development signifies a new stage in the ongoing data-breach crisis. In a recent commentary, Market Platform Dynamics CEO Karen Webster foretold that a POS malware-based attack might spread elsewhere. Get her thoughts on the matter by clicking here.
