PayPal Here Expands mPOS in Australia

In the coming month Australian small business will have a chance to accept credit card payments more easily, thanks to an assist from PayPal.

The company will be rolling out PayPal Here, a service that offer merchants an approximately smart-phone sized blue tooth card reader and a suit of apps that will make it take swipe-and-go credit card payments.

“Today’s shopfront is increasingly mobile with consumers embracing this trend and no longer expecting to have to travel to a shop for everyday goods and services,” Andrew Rechtman, PayPal Australia’s senior director of SMB, retail and strategy, told CNet. “This is why we’ve developed the new PayPal Here – to give businesses the flexibility to be more mobile, without being hampered by logistical challenges that technology can easily overcome.”

The reader is chip and PIN enabled, wireless and thus portable.  The service is not currently available, though interested business can sign up on PayPal’s website.
