Blackhawk Expands Mobile Wallet Services

Blackhawk prepaid payments network announced yesterday (March 4) it is expanding its mobile wallet digital services by adding features to allow for mobile gift card exchange, among other perks.

Through its mobile wallet, GoWallet, Blackhawk’s network has added the gift card exchange services that allows users of its mobile wallet to sell a number of gift cards through the digital platform and exchange for others through an online gift card marketplace. The latest digital addition is available for the iOS app now and should be added to Android soon, the company said.

“With these new features, Blackhawk’s digital services continues to innovate the way consumers manage, spend and get great value from their preferred gift cards across retailers,” Tomas Campos, Blackhawk Network general manager for digital and emerging services, said in a company news release. “Our digital services platform provides consumers an elegant way to input, manage, redeem and exchange gift cards. We are excited about the convenience and value our platform provides consumers and the opportunities this enables for our partners through our digital services APIs.”

The service also allows for physical gift card scanning, which enables the user to sell both physical and digital gift cards using their mobile device through the GoWallet mobile app. Once uploaded, users can sell their own gift cards and in exchange buy another gift card from GifCardMall.com. Blackhawk is also expected to eventually add a cash-out option for the mobile gift card exchange as well. GoWallet also enables: easy gift card uploads, real-time access to gift card balances, a fast method to redeem gift cards in-store or online and a one-stop shop to manage gift cards in the single digital wallet.

“These enhancements mark the first application of Blackhawk Network’s exchange services directly in a mobile wallet platform, and are available for developers and Blackhawk partners,” the company said.
