Doorman Aims To Ease Delivery Woes With New Funding

If this company is doing things right, consumers may never have to see a “Sorry we missed you” slip waiting on their doors again. The aptly named company, Doorman, which allows customers to schedule deliveries as late as midnight, seven days a week, raised $1.5 million in seed funding from multiple investors, TechCrunch reported yesterday (June 2).

Participants in this round were Motus Ventures, who led the round, WTI, MicroVentures and VGO Ventures.

This is Doorman’s second round of funding after it raised $375,000 from other investors. The San Francisco-based startup plans to use the new funding to launch an API that will allow Doorman’s partners to integrate scheduling delivery directly on their websites or apps.

Founded by Zander Andell, Doorman appeared on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in January and was able to strike a deal with Robert Herjavec for a 12 percent stake worth $250,000.

Now, with backing of a “shark” and investors alike, the company, which currently serves its home base of San Francisco, has its sights set on a pair of bustling markets, as it announced last week that it will expand to New York and Chicago this summer.

Doorman customers can schedule deliveries from 6 p.m. to midnight, seven days a week, to cater to office-goers who can schedule hourly deliveries in that time slot. Customers can either pay a $3.99 flat fee per package or subscribe to the monthly “silver” plan for $19.99 a month, which includes unlimited deliveries. The top tier gold program costs $29.99 a month and allows for unlimited deliveries and returns.

Adell added that the company is also turning some heads in the eCommerce space, as some companies want to ensure a seamless package delivery process, causing them to consider offering the service to their customers.

“Fifty percent of customer service calls are in the retail industry are ‘where’s my package?’ It reduces a lot of inefficiency and expense on their end,” Adell told TechCrunch.

And in a time when Amazon is setting its sights on drones and offering Prime members free same-day delivery, it’s increasingly becoming clear that customer-centric shipping services are a must have for the bustling eCommerce shoppers. Luckily, there are companies like Doorman which are ready to answer that knock.
