Instacart Brings One-Hour Grocery Delivery to Indianapolis

On-demand grocery delivery company Instacart is now available in Indianapolis, the 17th U.S. city to benefit from its services.

On-demand grocery delivery company Instacart is now available in Indianapolis — the 17th U.S. city to benefit from its services — according to a press release published Tuesday (Aug. 25).

Within one hour of placing their order, Indianapolis customers can now receive products from their local Whole Foods, Costco (even without a membership), Marsh Supermarkets, Georgetown Market or Petco.

“We decided to launch Instacart in Indianapolis after receiving tremendous demand from the community and extremely high interest from retail partners here,” Instacart Founder and CEO Apoorva Mehta stated in the release. “Our model of partnering with favorite local stores means we can replicate our success no matter the size of the market. We’re excited to bring the first on-demand grocery delivery service to Indianapolis and look forward to delivering healthy, affordable groceries directly to your doorstep.”

David Schwartz, Whole Food Market Midwest Regional Vice President of Operations, seems to share Mehta’s enthusiasm for the new partnership.

“We know that our customers lead extremely busy lives, and we are thrilled to bring our Indianapolis customers a fast and extremely easy way to purchase fresh, high quality products from Whole Foods Market,” Schwartz stated in the press release.

Indianapolis-based Marsh Supermarkets is excited to be partnering with Instacart for the first time. “Our mission is to create an exceptional shopping experience while supporting and improving the communities we serve,” said Amit Bhardwaj, Senior Director of Customer Loyalty at Marsh Supermarkets. “Instacart is the perfect partner to achieve that mission while also continuing to improve our offerings to customers with the addition of on-demand delivery.”

Instacart has started its operations in Indianapolis with the help of 70 newly hired employees – a number that is destined to increase as the service becomes more popular in the Indiana capital.

For the Indianapolis launch, Instacart will be using the Shopper Chopper, a giant motorized shopping cart, to deliver its products.

The news of Instacart’s arrival in Indianapolis comes less than a month after the company announced its partnership with Chicago-based Pete’s Fresh Market and the acquisition of Wedding Party, a mobile app that lets wedding guests create shareable, online photo albums and videos.
