On Wednesday, February 20, Mira Winery, based in Napa Valley, became the first American winery to experiment with aging wine in the ocean when divers place four cases of 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon in specially designed cages in Charleston Harbor.
“We like to say we have "Southern Roots and Napa Grapes," so it was only appropriate that we submerged our wine in Charleston Harbor. We are establishing a process to discover the impact of ocean aging vs. warehouse aging,” said Mira Winery President Jim Dyke. “We will raise the cages in three months to test chemically and with local Sommeliers. Mira Charleston Harbor will be sold through our website, with priority given to Wine Club Members.”
