Lyft Ridership Is Reaching New Heights

Lyft Sees Record Ridership

Objects in a car’s side-view mirror can often be larger than they appear. That’s good advice for Uber, because Lyft’s ridership numbers are starting to creep up on them in the same lane.

First reported by Recode and confirmed by TechCrunch, Lyft’s ridership for July topped out at 13.9 million rides – the highest single-month tally in the history of the company. Lyft also set a new personal best for monthly active users with 3 million hailing rides last month, up from 2 million as of February 2016.

While there’s likely no single cause of this surge in riders, Lyft’s new Concierge service did manage to grow its number of trips booked by businesses for clients by a factor of five through the second quarter. That comes along with a quadrupling in the number of distinct third parties engaging the Concierge platform for rides.

“The company continues to hit new records, and we continue to hear from both passengers and drivers that they choose Lyft because of the hard work our team puts into creating the best experience,” the company said in a statement to TechCrunch.

It might not be enough to give the bigwigs at Uber pause – especially considering the whirlwind of global activity they’re currently consumed by – but it might just get them checking their rear-view mirrors for approaching pink mustaches.
