Pokémon GO Sets Mobile Download Records

Pokemon GO Sets Records

The amount of press coverage Pokémon GO has attracted over the last few weeks has been groundbreaking in and of itself. However, Apple is ready to show stats that prove Pokémon GO has set more records than that.

According to TechCrunch, Apple has confirmed that Pokémon GO has accumulated the most downloads in the first week of availability of anything on its App Store. Apple didn’t disclose any specifics to quantify Pokémon GO’s record-setting release, but this comes as the game is still rolling out into major countries across the world. While the U.S. was included in the first wave of eligible countries, Pokémon’s home country of Japan was brought into the fold only last week, which makes its download numbers even more impressive.

It’s no wonder, then, why so many retailers, big and small, would be eager to get into the Pokémon GO fold as a way to attract more and more consumers. For as little as a dollar at a time, any business lucky enough to be designated as a “PokéStop” can attract in-game critters — and the human players looking to catch them — to their locations.

And given that Pokémon GO has established itself as the most spontaneously popular app in recent history, attracting those players might be opportunities retailers can’t pass up for long.
