MobiKwik Powers Food Delivery To India’s Train Passengers

MobiKwik, the mobile payments company, is teaming up with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to accept eCash payments on the latter’s eCatering service, Food on Track.

The Food on Track app enables passengers to order and get food from preferred restaurants delivered to their train. Some of the food chains that passengers can order food from include Domino’s, Punjab Grill, KFC and others. The service is available at more than 300 stations across India. MobiKwik has an existing relationship with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp., powering its IRCTC Connect app, which enables users to book train tickets in real time.

“Last year, MobiKwik became the primary wallet on IRCTC Connect, and this year, we are taking our partnership a step further by offering a robust eCash payments option on IRCTC’s eCatering app,” said Mrinal Sinha, chief operating officer of MobiKwik, in a report. “MobiKwik has been chosen as the preferred wallet by IRCTC, as apart from other modes of loading money in the wallet. We also have enabled cash loading through cash pickup in select cities and cash deposit at over 100,000 locations across 1,000 cities in India.”

MobiKwik is no stranger to teaming up or providing services in India that cater to the unique needs of the people. For instance, in September of last year, it launched its cash pickup service geared toward people who don’t go to banks or don’t want to use online banking. Since the service launched in July, the company has completed 1 million transactions. The company boasts 32 million users and 100,000 merchants in its network. The company sees so-called unbanked customers in India as a market with a lot of potential, with MobiKwik predicting that the real growth in the mobile wallet industry will come from consumers who don’t have a bank account but want to buy things on their phone.
