GrubHub Now Accepting Android Pay

As if ordering and getting food isn’t already easy with GrubHub, the online and mobile food ordering and delivery company announced on Tuesday (July 12) it will now accept Android Pay, the digital wallet service brought to consumers by Google.

With the new payment method, GrubHub customers can select Android Pay at checkout, speeding up the time it takes to get the food to their doorstep. Currently, GrubHub accepts credit cards and PayPal as payment methods as well. “More than 60 percent of our orders come through mobile devices, and we are always looking for ways to make ordering from GrubHub and Seamless even more convenient,” said Sudev Balakrishnan, SVP of product at GrubHub, in the press release announcing the new payment method. “We’re thrilled to bring our diners the ease of Android Pay so they can more efficiently order food from their favorite local restaurants.”

In addition to accepting payment from Android Pay, GrubHub also announced the launch of a ratings and review system, giving customers access to what others think about a restaurant or takeout joint before placing an order. The new system is being powered by the, on average, 70,000 data points GrubHub collects each day about its customers. Shortly after an order is received, GrubHub customers receive a short text survey, or when the customer logs back onto the website, a survey appears on the screen. The survey includes a series of questions about their experience. From the responses, GrubHub aggregates an overall star rating and a score for each part of the ordering experience.

“GrubHub works hard to connect diners with the food they love from their favorite local restaurants and to help restaurants succeed with innovative tools and technology,” said Balakrishnan in the press release. “We saw an opportunity to empower our diners by giving them accurate information on the aspects of the ordering experience they care about most, so they can make the ordering decision that best meets their needs. At the same time, we are able to help restaurant owners attract and retain more loyal diners by providing transparency into the factors that influence the rating of their restaurant.”
