Square Scores Coachella Merchant Deal

Coachella is almost here.

But something attendees don’t need this year for the massive arts and music fest? Cash. That’s because Square has become the official point-of-sale partner of the festival.

What this means is the festival-goers can simply bring their plastic — or smartphones and smartwatches, since Square Reader is NFC-enabled —and merchants will have a Square Stand or Square Reader on hand for all the necessary purchases — food and beer vendors included. And anything else the festival attendees’ hearts desire.

To promote the event, Square is also reminding consumers about the ability to use Square Cash at the event. Or, as its release reads: “Need to pay back your buddy for that Airbnb or round of beers? Square Cash is where it’s at.”

Yep, sounds like Coachella is almost in the air.

What else has Square been a part of? Well, as it shares on its blog: “In the past, we’ve partnered with the likes of the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin and the Global Festival in New York City as their official points of sale so that festival-goers don’t need cash — and festival vendors can make every sale.”

At Coachella, there’s also the chance to use a $Cashtag, which, by its very name, sounds as millennial as anything anyone could think of — fitting perfectly into this fest.

But Square even had a little humor in its blog.

“To reiterate — you don’t need to stuff your cutoffs (or fedora) with cash,” the post reads. “This means you can save space in your fanny pack for more important things, like sunscreen to protect your neck and a phone charger to stay connected.”
