Sears Offers Some Uber Rewards

Sears has announced an interesting — and unexpected — new partnership with Uber. In an effort to bolster its rewards program, the department store chain will be tying in with ridesharing service Uber to make shopping at Sears just that much more desirable.

Sears’ Shop Your Way loyalty program is standard in many regards — customers get points and special offers. So far, it’s been a winner for Sears as it has pushed 75 percent of the chain’s sales, according to recent reports.

Now adding to that rewards pile is Uber. Riders who link their Uber account to Sears’ loyalty plan will receive up to $2 in loyalty points for every trip. Rider Rewards — the loyalty umbrella the new tie-in lives under — is currently up for grabs in Chicago and New York City. A national rollout is expected soon, according to both firms.

New drivers who sign up for Shop Your Way will also get up to $1,000 in points, while current Uber drivers can also earn points by signing on.

“We are looking at more and more ways where we can reach out to top-tier brands and find more opportunities where our members can earn points,” Leena Munjal, senior vice president of customer experience and integrated retail at Sears, told Reuters.

The company declined to disclose Shop Your Way’s membership count specifically but did report that it is in “the tens of millions.”

The partnership will also mean that Sears’ 638 Auto Centers will serve as one of Uber’s preferred maintenance providers.
