Mark Your Calendars! Date Set for Next Warren/GOP Showdown

June 6, 2011

Special Treasury Department Adviser Elizabeth Warren will return to Capitol Hill on July 14 for this time what will likely be a full day of testimony regarding the activities and organization of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to Dow Jones.

At the previous May 24 House hearing, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) questioned Warren’s honesty in connection to the agreed upon length of her testimony. Last week, House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) wrote to Warren to request she block out a “full day” for another hearing.

“The sparring is likely to resurface at the July hearing, which is set for a week before the consumer bureau’s July 21 debut,” reports Dow Jones. “Republicans and the financial industry, which have opposed the bureau’s creation, are seeking to dull the agency’s powers. Critics argue that the bureau has too much authority over financial firms without enough congressional oversight.”
