Inside Scoop: Credit Union Servicer Issues EMV Cards In U.S.

A credit union service organization in St. Petersburg, Fla., could suddenly be influential in introducing U.S. consumers to EMV. PSCU’s Vladimir Jovanovic, Senior Manager of Prepaid Card Products, tells us why delivering EMV cards to potentially 14 million accountholders is a priority.

In the short term, Jovanovic mentions benefits that other issuers have stated before — namely that the card is more convenient for customers that frequently travel across the globe on business. But PSCU is also well aware of the mandates set by Visa, MasterCard, and now American Express, and sees establishing itself as a cutting-edge services provider as an advantage in the competitive financial services marketplace.

Some other financial institutions are just now starting to talk about EMV,  Jovanovic says, while others are essentially ready to sign up to issue EMV-enabled cards. But in all cases, Jovanovic says it’s clear that EMV is gaining momentum in the United States.
