Tis The Season To Use Mobile

More people will use mobile devices to compare prices, redeem coupons and make purchases this holiday season.

That’s good new for the eCommerce industry, and it comes via a new MarketLive survey titled “Mindset of a Multichannel Shopper.”

The most interesting trend from the study is that 16 percent said they plan to do most or all of their holiday shopping via smartphone or tablet this holiday season – up from 13 percent in 2011.

What else did the survey find? Let’s take a look.

Mobile Coupons, Mobile Commerce

According to the survey, 43 percent said they’re planning on using their mobile devices to redeem coupons while in stores. Twenty one percent said they’d make purchases via mobile, compared to just 11 percent a year ago. As Mobile Commerce Daily notes, given the overall slower rate of mobile purchasing adoptions, that’s a surprising jump.

Comparing Prices On Devices

Even if only one-fifth of consumers are looking to buy on their devices, more are planning on price shopping using mobile. The survey noted that 29 percent plan to use mobile to compare prices this year, while only 12 percent did a year ago.

Personalization and Product Reviews

Half of those surveyed said it was somewhat or very important to them to be able to find personalized gifts when shopping online, up from 41 percent a year ago. On a similar note, 45 said they found peer reviews important, while that number was just 37 percent in 2011.
