Feds Mull Facial Recognition Tech Protections

The federal government is investigating whether it should develop new consumer protection laws as the use of facial recognition technology spreads, VentureBeat reported on December 4.
 
In a blog post published on the National Telecommunications & Information Administration website (NTIA), Lawrence Strickling, the assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information, said that the widespread availability of digital photos could make it harder for consumers to protect themselves.
 
The NITA will be holding its first hearing on the topic in February to determine whether federal action on the issue is needed.
