Groupon has acquired San Francisco-based social gifting startup Plumfare, VentureBeat reported on August 12.

Plumfare did not formally disclose a buyer, but the media outlet was able to confirm the purchase with a Groupon spokesperson.

The acquisition is seen as part of a move by Groupon to build out its restaurant services. Plumfare specialized in the restaurant industry, and looked to foster interactions between customers and restaurants.
