Poland: Fastest Growing eCommerce Market In Europe

Polish research firm PMR has found that 70% of young polish consumers have shopped online in the last few months. While the number drops to 40% for the general population, it is still one of the fastest growing eCommerce markets in Europe.

Most eCommerce consumers in Poland are young and highly educated. This has mostly to do with Internet penetration in the country, which is much higher among the young and educated. Income also affects the results, with 80% of those with high incomes shopping online regularly.

A particularity of the online-shopping market in Poland is that consumers turn to online auction site more often than to eRetailers. The survey found that a majority of shoppers use an online auction site – 80% – and then only do they turn to other retailers.

When it comes to payment methods, more than half of respondents choose to pay through a bank transfer, followed by payment on delivery. The use of cards and services like PayPal are still not very popular in the country, amounting to less than 10% together.

According to Ecommerce, an industry lobby group, this trend has put Poland, along with the Czech Republic, as the fastest growing eCommerce market in the EU.
