Walmart, Visa Among Most Requested Gift Cards

New data from the National Retail Federation (NRF) indicates that Walmart gift cards are the most popular with consumers, CNBC reported on December 24.

Target, Amazon, Walgreens and the Home Depot rounded out the top five entries on the NRF’s list. Visa was the lone issuer to make the cut, ranking as the 10th most requested gift card behind Costco.

Annual spending on gift cards remains high, topping $110 billion in 2012 on more than 267 million individual sales. This figure could be higher this year, as the NRF previously reported that it expects gift card sales to reach an all-time high in 2013.
