Square Builds New Home In Australia

Square has expanded its global presence — making its mark in country No. 4 — as it has set up an official location in Melbourne, Australia.

The move into Australia is an important one for the mobile payments company, as it’s anticipated to help increase the sales of its Register tablet POS, Finextra reported. To help run the operations abroad, Square brought along former National Australia Bank and Visa executive Ben Pfisterer to run the division, particularly because of his background in card scheme innovation and emerging products. According to the report, Pfisterer says Square believes Australia’s SMB community is an ideal setting for the mobile payments company.

Prior to an official company launch in the region, Square has been sending the Register Tablet to Australia — keeping in tone with growing its global footprint. Square hasn’t indicated if the rollout has been a success, but the fact the the company is launching an official office in the area shows that Square may just have the next big location for it tablet POS rollout. Square’s new location might also help promote its chip-based mPOS dongles in the region that’s known for entrepreneurs and small businesses that are handling their transactions on the go.
