Amazon Now Up And Running In Turkey

Amazon.com announced Wednesday (September 19) that it launched in Turkey, enabling consumers in the country to shop from millions of products over the internet.

In a press release, Amazon said Amazon.com.tr is now live, featuring products in 15 different categories including books, consumer electronics, sports, outdoor, tools and more. “Our mission at Amazon is to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online, at great prices. Since the launch of Amazon.com in 1995, hundreds of thousands of Amazon customers in Turkey have ordered millions of items from existing Amazon stores around the globe. Today, we are thrilled to now offer Turkish customers a selection of millions of products, including products from over one thousand local Turkish businesses,” said Sam Nicols, country manager for Amazon.com.tr, in a press release. “We are committed to building our business in Turkey in the coming months by expanding our selection and delivery options and providing excellent service, through which we hope to earn the trust of Turkish customers.”

According to Amazon, the company in Turkey is offering a wide variety of products from local brands in the country and noted that Turkish businesses can now sell products to customers via its store with no product listing fees. “E-commerce has the power to level the playing field between big and small businesses, empowering Turkish companies of any size to grow their business online. We are investing in helping sellers become successful – continually building tools that do the heavy lifting to help them to sell more,” said Alpagut Cilingir, head of Amazon Seller Services for Amazon.com.tr, in the same press release.

Expansion into Turkey is just the latest in Amazon’s efforts to be operational across the globe. Last week it announced Souq, an online retail and marketplace website in Saudi Arabia, is launching the Amazon Global Store. In a press release, Souq said the store offers customers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) the ability to shop from more than 1 million products on Amazon in the U.S. Customers will be able to shop a wide selection of products, including apparel, handbags, shoes, watches, home goods and other popular brands. The dedicated Amazon Global Store will be available both on the Souq website and via the mobile app.
