Did A Teenager Plot The Target Breach?

A 17-year-old from Russia is being accused of masterminding the POS malware behind the recent Target data breach.

The name of the teen has not been released but he is thought to reside in the St. Petersburg region, Finextra reported on Jan. 20. Investigators from the security firm IntelCrawler determined that the malware used in the attack is known as BlackPOS.

“It has been widely sold on underground forums in Eastern Europe over the last few months and used in attacks in Australia, Canada and the US,” Finextra wrote.

As more details come to light, it is becoming increasingly clear that changes need to be made in order to prevent further Target breaches. Read Market Platform Dynamics CEO Karen Webster’s recent commentary on the matter by clicking here.
