Bulk wheat exports auction procedures examined

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is evaluating Viterra’s proposed changes to an auction system designed to increase competition in the wheat export industry. Auctions held late last year resulted in “large volumes of [unallocated] port terminal capacity” even though the country had seen record harvest figures. The changes submitted aim to conclude auctions quickly and “prevent gaming.”
