EU: Cargo airlines file new appeal of €776m fine

In November 2010, the European Commission fined 11 air cargo carriers fines that nearly reached €800 million (US$938.2 million). Since that time, the EC had its fine annulled in 2015 by a judge who ruled that there had been a procedural error.

    The EC re-adopted its previous ruling in March 2017 and imposed fines of more than €776 million (US$910 million) against 11 of the 12 air cargo carriers that it determined participated in a cartel. Lufthansa, the twelfth member of the cartel, received full immunity from the fines.

    Now, the 11 carriers are asking the European Union’s General Court to annul the EC’s March decision and to either reduce or remove the fines.
