McDermott Will & Emery is bolstering its roster with Elai Katz, leader of Cahill Gordon & Reindel’s antitrust and trade regulation group. Katz is joining the firm as a partner in the regulatory practice group in New York as dealmakers face increasing scrutiny in an evolving antitrust regulatory landscape.
Katz brings with him almost two decades of experience in a wide range of antitrust matters, from mergers and acquisitions to litigation, counseling and government investigations, per Bloomberg Law.
He represented Shutterstock, Inc. in its acquisition of Pond 5, ICON plc in its $12 billion acquisition of PRA Health Sciences, and Arch Capital Group Ltd. in several deals. Katz was also part of the Cahill trial team that successfully defended Credit Suisse in a foreign exchange markets class action in the Southern District of New York last year.

Ray Jacobsen, chairman of McDermott, stated, “Elai is particularly attuned to the role antitrust review plays in negotiating and completing mergers and acquisitions, and we know our clients will benefit from his deep experience and talent.”
Katz commented, “Cahill is an amazing firm, but the move gives him a chance to help make McDermott—which Katz said already has a strong global practice—an antitrust destination practice in New York. I just relish at the opportunity to take on that challenge. This is the perfect platform to do it.”
McDermott already has roughly 65 antitrust lawyers across the globe. With Katz’s addition, they will be well-equipped to advise clients in an increasingly complex antitrust regulatory space.
