Under the agreement, eligible U.S. workers using Workday will be able to direct their paychecks into Cash App starting Oct. 1, through Workday’s Enhanced Direct Deposit interface, per the release.

The integration provides Cash App with direct exposure to Workday’s user base of millions of American workers during direct deposit selection, per the release. Cash App said its research found 65% of adult “Modern Earners,” defined as freelancers, side-hustlers, content creators and gig workers, currently receive traditional ACH direct deposits into standard bank accounts. This finding highlights growth opportunities as the digital wallet platform expands beyond peer-to-peer payments. Cash App reported 9.4 million primary banking active users in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 17% increase year over year.

“Direct deposit is one of the clearest signals that customers see Cash App as more than a place to send and receive money,” Morgan Kuntze, global head of partnerships at Block, said in the release.

In a separate Thursday development, global data and technology firm Experian announced an integration with Workday to expand real-time income and employment verifications. The alliance connects Workday directly with Experian Verify, the company’s automated verification platform.

The agreement allows employers using Workday to fulfill income and employment verification requests automatically, reducing administrative workloads for human resources departments. Experian said the Workday connection provides a path to cover more than 80 million worker records, representing more than half of nonfarm payroll employees in the U.S. Workday customers will gain access to the Experian integration through the new Workday Total Benefits solution in late October.

“HR teams shouldn’t have to become paperwork chasers, and employees shouldn’t have to put life on hold waiting for a verification to clear,” Nancy Weitl, vice president of HCM product management at Workday, said in Experian’s press release.

Recent PYMNTS reporting indicates a broader shift in payroll. On the wage distribution side, embedding FinTech destinations into onboarding workflows bypasses traditional bank setup hurdles, with 61% of firms now prioritizing payroll benefits as their next embedded finance deployment. Concurrently, connecting payroll databases to credit bureaus automates income underwriting and eliminates paper documentation.
