BlueSnap: Giving Merchants An Edge Up On International Sales

In today’s complicated online shopping environment, payments platform BlueSnap is dedicated to helping merchants sell globally in various languages on any device, according to the company’s CEO, Ralph Dangelmaier.

Dangelmaier, in a recent podcast interview with Karen Webster, CEO of Market Platform Dynamics, said BlueSnap allows merchants to use their system easily, integrating on the merchants’ preferred terms. To do this, the company uses a tool called Intelligent Payment Routing, which aggregates and disperses transactions.

(jump to: 1:50)“We build business-intelligence tools using our data that looks at the most optimum way payment types and payment currencies actually best clear in multiple countries,” said Dangelmaier. “We look at data on a daily and weekly basis, and we decide, based on the merchant, product, and currency they’re selling, where to send transactions.”

But as BlueSnap operates in 60 countries with 110 different payment types, an important concern to be addressed is fraud. The company is looking at fraud from a cybersecurity point of view, ensuring that someone’s not hacked into someone else’s account, said Dangelmaier. He then added that the company looks at fraud in several ways, from the merchant to the shoppers.

Besides combating fraud, BlueSnap also is focusing on adapting to the evolving payment types around the world. “We think it’s a lot of work to build multiple payment types, multiple languages, multiple currencies, and make sure to optimize on multiple devices,” admitted Dangelmaier. Recognizing that API requires complex development of checkout templates, BlueSnap gives its new BuyNow Checkout templates to merchants to easily download onto their sites.

In coming months, BlueSnap expects to be doing more coupon management and subscription development, as well as adding new payment types to its product and marketing tools for merchants.

In one of its more recent announcements, the company introduced BuyNow 2 Checkout Pages, a hosted product that enables merchants to present a flexible, full-featured and PCI-compliant checkout page to shoppers.
