Google Launches India Shopping Platform

Google Launches New Shopping Platform in India

Google has released Google Shopping in India to aid customers with a streamlined online shopping experience.

According to a report, Google Shopping will allow customers to sift through offers and review costs between multiple merchants. It’s being released on three different platforms.

First, there’s the “Shopping” tab, which Indian users will see when they use Google Search. For users on mobile devices, there’s the Google Lens app. There’s also a new Shopping home page.

The home page is a user-friendly site where customers can search for different products separated by category, and can choose between thousands of retailers. The page also has reviews, ratings and price drop notifications.

Surojit Chatterjee, vice president of product management at Google, said that an increasing number of Indians are shopping online every year. “More than 40 million Indians are coming online every year, and search is an integral part of their online journey,” Chatterjee said. “From seasoned desktop shoppers to first-time users with entry-level smartphones, we hope this new shopping experience will make finding what people are looking for just a little bit easier.”

There’s also merchant center support in Hindi, in addition to English. The merchant center is a place where merchants can upload advertisements featuring store and product information. They can also upload product details without paying for ad campaigns.

Google said that Shopping will also be available as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for people with entry-level phones.

“With this launch, our aim is to support the entire retail ecosystem, from shopping sites and large retailers to small local shops, and give them the tools, technology and scale to thrive in today’s digital economy,” Chatterjee said.

In other Google news, Square recently announced that it would let users integrate Square Appointments with Google and Instagram, “allowing sellers to grow awareness of their business and acquire new customers right from their social media feed or search results,” Square said in a statement.

“Square found that over 50 percent of Square Appointments sellers do not have their own public website,” the statement continued. “This free integration helps sellers get discovered in an easy and affordable way, allowing customers to schedule appointments directly from Google and via their Instagram page, no website required.”
