Latest Streaming App Provider Ranking Deals Ends The Suspense

Some of us are ancient enough to remember when there were just 500 cable channels. With streaming contenders now coming out of the woodwork, it’s the perfect time to tune into PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Streaming Apps to understand who’s up to what.

Not that we can answer all the questions in this space. We don’t know who wins the next season of “Alone” for example. Couldn’t tell you who the real villain is in “The Night Manager.” No idea what’s going to happen to “The Mandalorian” when his Beskar is seen next season.

It doesn’t mean we don’t care. It’s all we think about. In fact, we’re thinking about it right now.

Best get to the rankings and end the suspense.

The Top 5

Last time we met here it was a fight club of tied scores, but no more. This ranking is absolutely free of those neck-and-neck situations, as you can plainly see.

Still at No. 1 — and now occupying that spot solo — is Netflix, now developing a new Pokémon TV show. That explains everything.

Dropping to No. 2 is YouTube and its wonderful sounding “Super Thanks” digital tip jar for content creators. Smart move.

Falling a spot also to No. 3 this cycle it’s Disney+ keeping firmly to the top 3.

Spotify: Music And Podcasts takes No. 4 this cycle as the audio titan mulls a move into live events, as recently reported.

Closing out the Top 5 is Amazon Prime Video at No. 5, down two spots from its previous chart position but not departing the Top 5 without a fight.

The Top 10

By the look of things, quite a few brands took a tumble in the new Provider Ranking of Streaming Apps, including Pluto TV dropping out of the Top 5 to take No. 6.

The pioneering Hulu app at No. 7 this cycle also falls two spots, but never fails to chart.

At No. 8 we’ve got Amazon Music, also down two spots, but not sounding concerned.

You say you love music? Well, iHeart Radio at No. 9. Subtler wordplay you will not find.

Taking us out at No. 10 this month it’s the Twitch app, down three spots from last cycle but keeping to the Top 10, partly by lowering its subscription cost back in Q2.

Now, if it’s OK with you, we’re going to re-watch “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Third time.
