RBS And Natwest Launch NFC For iPhone Users

Once again RBS and Natwest make it easier for their customers to use their money. After the launch of a highly complete banking mobile application, and the creation of services such as P2P transfers and money withdrawals through a code sent to your phone, the two banks are now joining forces with Visa Europe to launch a mobile payment solution.

RBS and Natwest will be providing their customers with an iCarte case for the iPhone 4 and 4S and a mobile app which will allow them to pay by tapping their phone on a Visa NFC terminal. The two banks are providing this service free-of-charge to 1000 of their customers. It seems Natwest and RBS are the first in Europe to tackle the lack of NFC in the iPhone. Despite their service being available for the iPhone’s 4 and 4S only it can be expected to be extended to the shiny new iPhone 5.

However, not all is good news for Natwest as it was announced last week that they will be discontinuing their cardless withdrawal service, only three months after its launch, due to security concerns. Despite being available to customers for many years in case they had lost their cards, Natwest’s cardless withdrawal service through their mobile app seemed too risky for the bank.
