Square Hails a Cab, Partners with NYC Taxis, Limos

Square’s payment technology will be tested in 30 New York City taxicabs, per an agreement with the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, AllThingsD reports. The test program is slated to begin in “a few weeks.”

    Square’s new foray will likely ruffle the feathers of two major payments players: VeriFone Systems Inc., and Creative Mobile Technologies LLC. As AllThingsD writes: “Of the 13,237 official taxicabs currently on the road in New York City, VeriFone processes the credit card payments in approximately half of them; CMT handles the other half.”
